I’m happy to report that everything works great when PuTTY is the “xterm,” too. I had to recompile screen with ‘–enable-colors256′ (in OpenBSD, this was just adding it to the port’s CONFIGURE_ARGS in the Makefile – there may be a cleaner way too, I’m not sure) to get all the way, but otherwise it went fine.
