Superbowl Sunday
In 2002, I was in a college sociology class, and the professor was explaining how cultures have knowledge that’s so commonly-shared that people can’t even remember where they learned it. “Oh, but this doesn’t have to be ubiquitous. Funny story:
Since even before we’ve been married, my wife and I have watched football every Sunday it’s on. Well, I watch, my wife reads a book or knits, she doesn’t pay a lot of attention. About six years into this routine she looked up and said, “Oh, so every time they go another ten yards they get four more downs?”
The class — big class, 120 students — erupted into laughter, it was just plain funny that she could not know that for so long. And I’m sitting in the middle of the room going “Oh! So that’s how it works!”
Despite my staggering lack of football knowledge, I’m at a friend’s Superbowl party and wanted to share.
If you play any tabletop games (like D&D, Magic, and Settlers), visit my site NearbyGamers to find folks to game with.
